Car Blast Near Red Fort: A powerful blast was reported in a parked car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, triggering a fire that damaged several nearby vehicles. The incident took place around 6:45 PM, according to officials from the Delhi Fire Department. Officials have confirmed that eight people have died and more than two dozen are injured in the blast. The Red Fort is one of India’s most iconic monuments and a major tourist attraction. Any explosion near such a sensitive site raises serious security concerns.
Casualties and Rescue
At least eight victims have been confirmed dead, while several others are being treated for burn injuries at Lok Nayak Jaiprakash (Narain) Hospital (LNJP). Authorities have stated that some of the injured remain in critical condition.
Emergency Response on the Scene
At least seven fire tenders and police teams rushed to the spot soon after reports of smoke and flames emerged from the high-security Red Fort area. Firefighters brought the blaze under control within minutes, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures or metro facilities.
Probe Launched to Determine Cause
Senior officials from the Delhi Police, Special Cell, and Forensic Team have cordoned off the site. Investigators are examining whether the explosion was the result of a mechanical malfunction, CNG leak, or deliberate act. “The exact cause will be known only after forensic analysis,” a police officer said on condition of anonymity. Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) have joined the Delhi Police in investigating the cause of the explosion.
Security agencies have placed Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand on high alert, tightening checks at metro stations, border routes, and religious sites. Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly reviewed the situation and directed agencies to probe “all possible angles.”
Security Tightened Around Red Fort
The Red Fort area, a UNESCO World Heritage site and major tourist attraction, has been placed under heightened security. Traffic diversions are in place near Lal Qila, Chandni Chowk, and Jama Masjid, with metro operations proceeding under close watch.
Public Urged to Stay Calm
Officials have requested residents and commuters to rely only on verified information. “People should avoid spreading rumours. Our teams are at the spot and situation is under control,” a Delhi Fire Department spokesperson said.
