Jammu: In a bold display of vigilance and preparedness, Indian security forces on Wednesday successfully neutralized a cross-border shelling attempt by the Pakistan Army near the highly sensitive Jammu Airport. According to defense sources, artillery fire—launched from across the border—was intercepted before it could cause any major damage or loss of life.
The incident occurred in the early hours when suspicious activity was detected along the Line of Control (LoC) and international border zones near Jammu. Security agencies swiftly moved to high alert as the Pakistan Army reportedly targeted key military and civilian infrastructure using mortar fire.
The shells, suspected to be part of a calculated provocation, were either deflected by counter-artillery measures or landed harmlessly in unpopulated zones. Officials confirmed that no casualties or property damage were reported.
“We were fully prepared to meet any threat. Our counter-measures worked precisely as planned, ensuring the safety of both military assets and civilians in the area,” said a senior official from the Indian Army, speaking on condition of anonymity.
This latest violation adds to the growing list of ceasefire breaches by the Pakistan Army, raising concerns about stability along the border. Defense analysts suggest the attack was aimed at escalating tensions and undermining peace efforts in the region.
A high-level investigation has been launched to assess the extent of the breach and monitor any potential infiltration attempts. Surveillance along the border has been intensified, and additional reinforcements have been deployed in vulnerable sectors.
The Jammu Airport, which also functions as a strategic base for the Indian Air Force, remains under heightened security. Civilian air operations continue uninterrupted.
The Union Home Ministry praised the swift and effective response of Indian security forces. “Any act of aggression will be met with a firm and proportionate response,” a ministry spokesperson emphasized.
Local residents have been urged to remain alert but calm, while authorities continue to closely monitor developments.
